The work area of AutoCAD is usually divided into the active drawing area, the command area, and the property area. The active drawing area is where you are working and any commands you use. The command area is where you type commands that control the drawing and related operations. The property area shows the attributes of the drawing elements you are editing, such as the selected and active layer, the objects you are editing, and the properties of the selection.
You can also hide the property area to show only the active drawing area and the command area, and switch between the two by pressing Alt.
The available screens in the active drawing area are the standard drawing toolbars and the status area.
The drawing toolbars show the standard items that you have in the drawing window. The command area and property area are below the drawing toolbars, and can be accessed by clicking the respective button in the drawing toolbars.
The menu bar along the top of the screen provides the main menus for AutoCAD. If you press Ctrl you can access the system menu, which has various options for the program.
The lower right corner of the screen has the Zoom box and properties. The Zoom box lets you choose the area of the drawing window that you want to zoom to. You can adjust the position of the Zoom box by moving the slider and choosing what is being zoomed. The Zoom box can also be used to pan the drawing.
There are two views in the screen:
Active View – Shows the active drawing area.
